Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies will soon enable us to sequence plant genomes for less than 1000 euros. This will accelerate plant genomics and biological research. However, the dramatic expansion in both the availability of sequence data and the range of sequencing-based applications requires new statistical and bioinformatics techniques & approaches to unlock the sequence-treasury.

The aim of this workshop is to build a community of researchers that facing the design and analysis of experiments involving high-throughput sequence data. This community provides a low-entry platform for the presentation and discussion of problems, best-practice, solutions, ideas and future directions to empower its members.

The set-up and philosophy of the 2nd StatSeq workshop will be to emphasize a limited number topics with adequately allocated time for discussion, leading to more clear inferences.
1.    This workshop aims to have 5 well-prepared discussion-based sessions with one or two invited speakers.
2.    The chairs of the sessions take responsibility to prepare, organize, lead and summarize their sessions.
3.    The chairs decide on the number of invited speakers (and invite the speakers); they may also invite discussants or take up that task themselves;
4.    The chairs will deliver a summary and a forward look at the closing session
5.    The invited speakers will be asked to make their presentations available prior to the workshop to allow pre-viewing by participants

6.    A way-forward look will include two invited  presentations on [1] Novel statistical approaches and on [2] Next-generation Phenotyping approaches.

7.    This workshop also aims at Wiki-based white papers that document advancements, best-practices, and prioritized problems & challenges
8.    The white papers may well start in advance of the workshop by using the Wiki page of the StatSeq website (http://www.statseq.eu/StatSeqWiki)
9.    Each participant of the workshop will sign up for one session to which she/he will actively contribute on the Wiki – page.

NOTE:
This set-up implies that this workshop will have only oral presentations by invitation. In addition, contributed papers will be highly appreciated via poster presentations.
