To collect your bibliographic references, our favorite method relies on the free "Mendeley" software (which runs under Windows, MacOSX and Ubuntu-Linux). This software is composed of two parts:
- Mendeley Desktop: a software you must install on your computer, see below.
- Mendeley Website: which allows to collect references from the web...
If you don't want to Installl/use Mendeley, see the "Alternative method" below. A Quickstart guide for Mendeley is available here if needed.
Install Mendeley Desktop and Collect your references
To install Mendeley Desktop:
1. please go to http://www.mendeley.com and use the following email/password to login (top right of the page):
e-mail: statseq@toulouse.inra.fr
password: statseq.bib
2. Download and install Mendeley Desktop on your computer.
3. Start the Mendeley Desktop software on your computer...
4. A Plugin wizard will ask you to install Plugins. Please install the "Web Importer". This will launch your favorite web browser on Mendeley website. To install the "Web Importer", you can either drag the the "Import To Mendeley" button on the web page to your bookmarks toolbar, or you can right-click this button and choose to add this link to your bookmarks. Proceed with the wizard questions.
5. At the top of Mendeley Desktop's window, there is a message saying "Welcome to Mendeley! To get the most out of Mendeley log in or join for free". Click on "log in" and enter the same email/passsword:
e-mail: statseq@toulouse.inra.fr
password: statseq.bib
You are all set.
6a. To add a reference, simply use your web browser to go to the page of the paper you want to refer to (in Pubmed, Google Scholar, ISI Web of Science, ScienceDirect, ACM Portal, Ingenta connect... but Scopus is not available yet) and click on the "Import to Mendeley" button (or bookmark) that should be available in your web browser. A popup should appear. Click on "Import" for the reference you want to import. This is it.
Warning: pop-ups should be allowed in your browser (Under Mozilla Firefox: Tools -> Options -> Contents - Exceptions to 'Block pop-up windows', add www.mendeley.com. In recent versions of Firefox, this is under "Edit -> Preferences -> Contents). Users can perform a block-up test here Test Popup.
6b. Alternatively, the Mendeley Desktop can often directly read all information from the paper PDF file (click on "Add Documents" and select the paper PDF).
7. Under Mendeley Desktop, the reference will become available once you click on the "Sync Library" button.
Note: if you are already using Mendeley Desktop on your own, you can go login into the "statseq@toulouse.inra.fr" account by selecting "Options" under the "Tools" menu. Just enter the email/password above.
